Type d’évènement

Decarbonization for the Coatings industry is one of the main topics for the next years, and UATCM, which AFTPVA is a member with the Italian and Portuguese Associations, proposes a free webinar with suppliers as to propose the technologies for decreasing the Carbon Foot Print, and a Consultant to present the strategic options.

Programme

Industry decarbonization as one of the key business issues for 20 years to come

Speaker: Irina PASCUTTO, Associate Partner, PMP STRATEGY

The chemicals are going through a tense market and economic context with more limited customer’s purchasing power, energy and raw materials supply and cost issues. On the top of that, the industry is under the strong environmental pressure supported by numerous regulatory constraints and clients’ requests. Decarbonization is at the heart of these concerns, one of the key stakes being to turn the constraints into opportunities being able to finance the R&D and environ-mental upgrades or even improve the overall profitability. To make it a success, it is key to address the decarbonization not only from the regulatory standpoint, but through a business-driven approach in support of the strategic decision making.

Sustainability : a practical approach

Speaker: Dr. Luigi MORA, R&D Group Leader, VINAVIL SpA

Sustainability is one of the key topics for these and the forthcoming years. The EU Political path is steering the way to a more sustainable society through legislation such as Eu Green Deal, Taxonomy and Chemical Sustainability Reporting Directive etc… To ensure that disclosed data and information are transparent, reliable and verifiable, it is perceived the need to comply with recognized standards and verification by a third party (super partes) that gives greater authority to one’s statements or claims. VINAVIL will provide practical examples of its journey towards sustainability and share its experience on the environmental pillar with ISCC PLUS certification, a voluntary scheme to certify sustainable content (recycled and bio-based materials) of its finished products. Then we will illustrate our voluntary communication by means of another instrument ‘’the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology’’ for measuring environmental impact indicators. An overview of the LCA technique will be provided, as well as some examples. LCA may be then converted into Environmental Product Declaration to make the assessment transparent and certified. From a technological point of view, VINAVIL is implementing the energy management in its main plant by improving cogenerator efficiency and installing new photovoltaic parks. Finally, we will explore a possible comparison of environmental indicators between bio and fossil products.

Sustainable solutions to decarbonize paints, coatings inks

Speaker: Tim-Frederic SLOOT, Head of Sustainability – Coating Additives, EVONIK Operations

EVONIK Coating Additives actively supports its customers to reduce the carbon footprint of coatings and inks with new, sustainable solutions: mass balancing and biosurfactants. TEGO® Wet 270 eCO and TEGO® Foamex 812 eCO are the first two products from the Coating Additives portfolio. They are based on the mass balance approach and allow for instant CO2 reduction in coating and ink formulations. Mass balance involves mixing virgin fossil and renewable or circular raw materials into existing systems and production processes. The renewable amount is then allocated mathematically to specific products. Customers receive the same, well-known performance of the products while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. TEGO® Wet 570 Terra and TEGO® Wet 580 Terra are the first wetting agents based on biosurfactants to address the growing need for sustainable coating and ink formulations. Produced by microorganisms in a unique fermentation process, the biosurfactants are derived from 100% renewables, having a much lower product carbon footprint than classical surfactants. They combine an excellent performance profile with great pigment and filler wetting and a very favourable environmental profile with very low VOC levels and EU Ecolabel compliance.

Facilitating the adoption of mass balance via ISCC PLUS Certification

Speaker: Manisha PANDEY, Sustainability Manager, SYNTHOMER plc

This session will cover the essential steps for implementing ISCC PLUS requirements, with focus on the mass balance approach. Additionally, we will introduce the brand tags developed at SYNTHOMER to market ISCC PLUS certified products, highlighting their role in promoting sustainability in a transparent and credible way.

A hollistic toolbox to reduce carbon footprint of decorative paints

Speaker: Yohann TRANG, Global Market Director – Construction and Architectural Coatings and Adhesives, ARKEMA

Reducing carbon footprint of decorative paints has become a crucial objective and trend on the market, to lower their environmental impact and mitigate the effects on global warming. By reducing VOC and harmful chemicals, indoor air quality and human health are improved. Governments and regulatory authorities are implementing stricter environmental regulations which can be addressed by lowering paints’ carbon footprint. Consumers are also becoming more environmentally conscious and prefer products that are sustainable. Finally, circular economy principles are supported, where resources are used efficiently, waste is minimized, and products are designed to have a longer lifespan. ARKEMA being strongly committed to a more sustainable world, we have developed and are constantly extending our toolbox to tackle these challenges. Our solutions and roadmap will be highlighted during this presentation.
